people randomly can't connect to server
#1
Ok, so I just recently installed srcds on an XP Pro box, I turned off the firewall and forwarded the correct ports. So it seems like randomly people can't connect to the server. They type connect and whatnot and nothing happens, I don't see any packets dropped on my side they just plain can't connect. I even tried forwarding all ports from the ips of people who couldn't connect to the server and they still couldn't connect. Then it seems like later in the day they can connect no problems.

I'm starting to think this is an ISP issue, but if you guys have had similar problems maybe it has something to do with the ip the server sends to clients connecting, I don't know...

I have had this issue my self. It also came along with my server showing on the master list for about five minutes, then it would go away. This was fixed when I bought a new router. I wouldn't suggest doing that until you can narrow the problem down. I did it for the fact i hated my router. Smile

Another way to validate that it is your server and not steam is this.
Have a friend do this.

1. Click Start
2. Click Run
3. Type in "cmd" without the quotes
4. Click Ok
5. Type in "ping 1.1.1.1" without the quotes and 1.1.1.1 would be your IP address. DO NOT INCLUDE PORT
6. Press Enter

If it pings your ISP successfully that means that it is not your ISP, it something else.
