Server Choke Core2Duo
#1
Hello Guys,

I have one 20slot css server running at 100tickrate and when there is 12/20 players the server choke gets to about 40/60 and goes back down etc. My server details are below.

CONFIG_HZ=1000

Server Rates:
sv_minrate 0
sv_maxrate 30000
decalfrequency 10
sv_maxupdaterate 100
sv_minupdaterate 10

I presume the kernels timer freq is 1000HZ. This is strange because the box is quite well specced. Any ideas guys?

what's your upload speed and set your sv_minrate to something, 0 has been known to cause issues.

Also can he run a 100tick 20 slots?

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your replies. The upload speed is 100Mbit full duplex.

Hello,

Its 100Mbit and not capped so 12mbps on a perfect network each way.

Hi,

I have tried this on a normal map with 14/20 players and it seems fine perhaps its the surf maps that cause the choke.

Hi,

The kernel is not compiled at 1000HZ. I tried running the server at 66tick and no choke. So I'm now going to do a custom kernel compile.

Get the server under load again and when the choke starts again, go do 'top' in the console to see CPU usage and mem usage.

Choke can be a number of things - the server cant sustain the required FPS to match tickrate, the client has incorrect rates set or the server doesn't have enough bandwidth for min rates (which i doubt will be your problem).

If nothing seems badly wrong in top, you could try settings the affinity to one core.

any big city can supply a 20-100mbit fiber, or a datacentre mostly have OC-48 or higher connections (some total of 600gb/s
