Unable to start SRCDS.EXE
#1
Okay, so I just found srcds.com so everything up until now is my own doing.

I downloaded the hldsupdatetool and installed to C:\hlserver. from there I ran CMD, I ran "C:\hlserver\hldsupdatetool.exe -command update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir C:\hlserver"

after the download finished I have tried running srcds.exe both from windows and from CMD. Either way it does nothing, no window pops up, no console, champagne and certainly no balloons and confetti.

Here are my current stats of my dedicated server box.
Compaq Presario 5320US
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 1.99 Ghz
Chipset: Intel i845
Memory: 512 MB (2x 256) PC133 SD-RAM
Video: nVidia Vanta LE (128 bit proc, 16 MB sd v-ram)
HDD: WDC 40 Gb
LAN: Intel pro 100
OS: Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2

Any suggestions on what exactly is causing the problem??

Create an srcds.bat file and start it up with that.

You need either, like Bonsaihero said, a batch file or a shortcut to run it, you can read how to do everything in my guide over here: http://planethalflife.gamespy.com/View.php?view=HL2Guides.Detail&id=4&game=3

Kalenvor, i had the exact same problem. How i fixed it was to make a shortcut to SRCDS. Right click on the shortcut, click properties, then go to target. In target type F:\SRCDS\srcds.exe -console -game cstrike -tickrate 33 -ip 192.168.0.81 -port 27015 (I got those commands from Drocona's guide). Change the "F:\SRCDS\srcds.exe" to where ever your srcds.exe is located. Then change the IP to your ip (found out your IP http://www.whatsmyip.com). Hit apply and exit. Then double click on the shortcut, and a console window should appear. After a few seconds, if it comes up with an error about UCP port, get rid of the +ip XXX.XXX.X.XX command line. You got that error probably because you have a router, so the router must assign the ip, not you.
This solved my problem hope it solves yours!
