Server Lag
#1
I am getting lag with only two or three people in my server. It is home based and I am playing on the same computer that I host it with. I know that dedicated servers that you can buy are far better, but lag with only two or three people seems terribly unreasonable.

I have an AMD 64 x2 4200+, 1 gig of ram, 320 gb SATA II 7200 rpm HD, and a 2000 kbps upload connection.
Currently I get ~500fps in the server window and have it set to 66 tick.

Anyone here know what I could do to fix this or what might be causing it?

start up the SRCDS, press cntrl+alt+del and set the SRCDS process priority to high.

Hmm that's rather weird, as I do not recommend running at the same pc but it should still work.
What kind of lag is showing up?

I think this is a bad things to do this !
If you run on a windows machine, the basic slice runs on the core 0.
Just making your srcds with an High priority and affinity to core 0 & 1
For a server, you need use a maximum power and speed, generally, a dedicated server is running on a server machine ! Playing on the same machine is not recommanded

Windows can equilibrate the power's requests for processus. Setting High priority for srcds would say to windows give to srcds more times the hand than others processus.

Windows basic slice is at Normal priority. The defaut priority level is Normal

Solution :
use sv_maxfps 200 and test server & game

Do you understand what I mean ? (I'm french)

Yes, it does.

Quote:start /wait /high C:\SRCDS\server\srcds.exe -console -game cstrike -tickrate 100 +maxplayers 20 +fps_max 600 +map de_dust2 -autoupdate

for an example of a bat file that does this.

In a batch file it does, in a shortcut it doesn't
