Another Server Spec Question
#1
So my College is going to let our game club Host LAN parties here on campus. What are the minimum system reqs for a dedicated LAN server that would allow at least 24players at 100Tick rate?

Also as far as networking goes would a server with a Gigabit card plugged into a gigabit enabled router perform THAT much better than a standard 10/100 set up?

a 2GHz CPU would do fine for 24 players @ 100 tick

Gigabit card won't make any difference unless you will be using the server for full streaming of DVD's to 10 people at the same time, but you'll need a much more high end server for that kind of stuff to control all the bandiwdth. 100mbit will do fine but 1gbps is much nicer to show off, it won't make any difference tho.

No I just want to run a Dedicated Source server for LANs. Also does anyone know if there is any version of Linux that is better suited to run a source server? Or are they all just about the same? At home I currently run a Fadora server and like it alot for storing files and such.

It's what you prefer most really. Every distro has it's own pro's and cons but they all do the same.
It's what you like best, I prefer a console distro, no gui etc.

Actually I prefer console too. Think that would scare off the rest of my team though. I am building this for a College club.
