Random Lag problem
#1
ok i have just started renting this Dedicated Server
Windows Dedicated Server Starter Package
AMD 3000+
1GB Ram
80GB HDD
Window 2003

I am currently running one 30 Slot CSS Surf RPG Mod Server, its running the following Custom settings

sv_voicequality 4
sv_airaccelerate 150
sv_minrate 0
sv_maxrate 0
decalfrequency 10
sv_maxupdaterate 66
sv_minupdaterate 10
net_maxfilesize 64
fps_max 300

my command line
srcds.exe -console -game cstrike +port 27015 -tickrate 66 +map surf_bestriver_v3 -maxplayers 30 -autoupdate

There is currently nothing else running on the server and it seems to have a lag spike about every 3-5mins, i know that rpg mod can cause proformance problems but this seems to wierd to be rpg
i run the following mods.

Mani Admin Plugin v1.2BetaR
EventScripts v1.3.0.006
CS:S RPG Mod v1.0.5
SteamBans Source v2.4
i have monitored the cpu usage and network usage and nothing seems to change.
i think it could be the maxrate but i will leave it up to u guys....

Thanks,

yep certainly max and minrate.
You should always make then non zero, since you are renting it at a datacenter you can set sv_maxrate 30000 and sv_minrate to something you like (no 56k > 4000 > allow 56k)

I also noticed fps_max 300, try setting it to 700 it can increase performance a lot.

really depends on the amount of players, not on the maxrate setting.
I'm sure your server won't make it to 800gb a month on 30 players, since during night time it will mostly be empty, during the day half full maybe and in the afternoons it might be full for a few hours.
In theory it would use more bandwidth yes but that's calculated upon a constantly full server. When actually running the server you'll notice that this isn't the case at all, the server will be empty most of the times or half full.

so u think 30000 maxrate and 700 fps?

if i run out of bandwidth then the server will be down for how ever it is untill the next payment........

i will try it and see if thats what u think

yep, should be perfectly fine.

you won't really get 700 fps, you'll get more like 500 which is perfect. When you set fps_max 500 it will give you 2/300 fps, it works real weirdToungue

Ah, we're talking about server fps. The defining factors in that are ram and processor. Graphics cards hardly contribute anything to the heavy processing needed for servers. Unless you want to be adventurous with your srcds window Big Grin

Ermmm....

You really lost me now, we are talking about the server not the client here.
So what did you actually do on the server now?
