Running Multiple servers
#1
Is there a way that i can run multiple servers through steam (using the source dedicated server tool) instead of the console? It seems I've encountered a problem while launching the servers through console (I've made a thread about it) and I tried the steam tool and it works fine. Just wondering how would one go about running more than one VAC secured server since it uses the default folder in SteamApps.

P.S. Since this always requires the use of Steam, if I were to log in with the same username on another machine, will it shut down the dedicated server (like what happens when you join a game from a different login and it disconnects you from the first one)?

If you want to start more than 1 server on same pc you will have to start one server with port number 27015 - Another with 27016. So after you've created the server first server with port 27015, you right click on source dedicated server in the steam menu and click properties - launch options and add +port 27016 or was it -port 27016 Big Grin. If you run a few servers on different pc's you will just have to download steam on the other pc and create a new steam account and download source dedicated server. I would recomend you to use SRCDS, its alot easier, no need for stupid steam

Yeah I used SRCDS all the time until the CSS server would stop responding randomly and crash when players knifed each other (still haven't figured out why). I DO prefer SRCDS but limited on options at the moment.

Question: by assigning different port numbers to the different servers, does it still use the same root folder cstrike? Because what if I want to have two different servers with diff mani settings and diff custom content?

It will use the same folder, same cfg (as long as you don't tell it to use a different cfg), same mods and everything.
If you download the SRCDS standalone server (like 1GB) you'll ahve many many advantages and you can simply copy the server folder, name it different and have totally different settings for it.
