server help
#1
like past threads, i have created a server but it does not show up in the master list. But it seems all the threads i have seen started a server a different way. I simply downloaded the client off steam. None of the HLDS updater stuff, (whatever that is) Sorry if this has been said before, but how can i get people to see my server on the master list.

my PC (laptop) specs are:

CPU: Intel Centrino Cuo 1.66ghz (2 cores)
RAM: 1GB
ROUTER: Microsoft MN-500
UPLOAD SPEED: 400-600kb

if you have a router you have to forward the ports correctly, http://www.portforward.com
make sure there aren't any programs blocking the server.

if you do that it'll run.

so if im running this server on a laptop, that is in the wireless network, but not connected to the router, what computer would i forward the ports on.

Also, if theres anything i should do with fire wall, what is it? I have
Windows Live One Care security.

Well it has to connect to a hub or router if you're on wireless, I however can't know what your setup is so that's something you have to figure out.

Just make sure the firewall won't block the srcds, don't shut it down unless there's no other choice.
But first you have to get the port forwarding done correct.

ok, so i have tried to forward the ports for both computers IPs. Opened the ports on both computers firewalls. Done everything on PortForward.com, set up static IPs. Yet, no such luck. I am connected to a Microsoft MN-500 Router, that is connected to my desktop. My ISP is Comcast. Ill try to work it out for another day, but if nothing seems to work, im just giving up. Sad

Is there a way you can make a direct connection to the internet (so no router), if it works then you know the problem is the router.
Each router should have a DMZ option, you can try this too, it should open up all the ports to the server.
