How to Make a Source Dedicated Server WORK Online

I'm here to make a source dedicated server. Don't say just look on google... cause i have... for proof heres a list of guides that helped me but didn't 100% get it to work for me:

But my MAIN problem is: i cant get my server to work online dont say goto http://www.portforward.com ive treid that a while ago (like 5 months ago) and i got it to work online. But now i cant. I dont know why. Ive got both types of Source Dedicated Servers to work. GUI and Console. But it just dont work online. If some1 could plz do a step to step thing with me like add me on MSN Messenger or if some1 has another way to port forward... like open port forward manually then plz tell. Ill make a step to step guide of what I do to get this to work on http://www.portforward.com and tell me where i go wrong.

3. Linksys - BEFW11S4 - Im not sure about this cause on my Router it says i got BEFW11S4 ver.3 but they dont have v3 only that and v3.2 and others
4. Half Life 2 Steam
5. Static IP Address
6. Windows XP
7. Now this is where a problem is. When i have to type in IPconfig All or whatever i have treid lots it just Flashes and dissapears. and if i type CMD then in that IPConfigALl it doesnt work.. Says its not a regognised Operation or command blah blah blah and its for every singl command through CMD BUT i found a way to over come it get Super Screen Recorder and go to C:Windows/System32/ipconfig then make it really small in corner then start recording with Super Screen Recorder and hold down enter so then IP Config should flash TONS of times and dissapear TONS OF TIMEs then after like 2 minutes stop recording save thing and have a look at it Then press pause play pause play until! u actually get to where it shows IPconfig then press Print Screen and save it. lol wierd i know but it does work. do the same in the Run box with IPConfigall except u cant just hold down enter u have to go Start Run ipconfigalll tons of times anyway thats sorted cause ive got detailst down
8. it says take down info... ive got pic of it so thats fine
9. blah blah blah then goto that then: Click Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) and then the Properties button"
10. he adds a lil "Helper Thing" so i use that and it says put in your Default Gateway so i put in (from IPCONFIGALL) 192.168.1.1 then Current IP (also from IPconfigAll) 192.168.1.100 then i press Find Static IP Address and under First Computers Static IP it says: 192.168.1.136 so what i do is in Internet Protocol(TCP/IP) Properties i put in Obtain IP: (from IPConfigAll excpet IP Address from the thing he added): IP 192.168.1.136
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Then Use the following DNS Servers:
Preffered DNS Server 194.168.8.100
Alternate DNS server: 194.168.4.100

its ALOT Simpler... it just says put in this:
IP: 192.168.1.20 (If there are multiple computers being setup with static IP's, then the next computer would be .25, and next would be .30, etc)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Preferred DNS server:  192.168.1.1
So which one should i listen to? lol anyway still PLZ Reply
Then next on Port Forwarding: it says do not skip this step! Please enter the static ip you want to forward to so then i put in 192.168.1.136
Then after that it says put in the IP Address of "You Router" so im guessin that is NOT 192.168.1.136 of my PC im using But: 192.168.1.1 so i use that and i put in password and username and there we go
Then it says goto Advanced then Filters... and i do
Then it says:
Put a dot into the Block WAN Request Disable radio button.
Click the Apply button near the bottom of the page.
Then i do that then i go on Forwarding: and i put in Exactly What it says! EXACTLY
then it says it should work and im done. Now when i go on http://www.whatismyip.com it comes up as: Your IP Is 82.1.157.140
and when i start up SRCDS i put in sv_lan 0 just to make sure. Then i type in sv_lan and it says: Server is a lan server no heartbeat no blah blah blah! so wth! (What the Hell!) I REALLY need help... ive been trying FOR AGES and to show how desperate i am... LOOK HOW MUCH IVE WROTE! I WROTE THIS ALL in the morning!! HOW SAD RIGHT!? so PLLLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEE Help Me... think thats it.. i need alot of replies cause i have Typed alot...so... THX! in advance!

Concerning IPCONFIG:

Start>Run. Type in "CMD" and hit enter. A black DOS prompt will come up. Type IPCONFIG and hit enter again IN THAT BLACK BOX! It'll show you what you need to know.

If it's any concelation, I got the same problem...

You can try to launch the file by finding it. C:/WINDOWS/System32/CMD if you still cant find it then email me or just reply to the post and I can get you started.

by chance is the "graham" account in the administrators group? can you do a find for "ipconfig" if it's not there, something is wrong with your install as it's a pretty basic component.

Forget all teh crap that you have to do to your PC, it's all useless.

All you ahve to do is forward the ports and run the server, if it doesn't come online like you said you should use the DMZ option in your router.
The server is hosted on LAN so it will say it's on LAN, but the router knows that when someone connects to your external IP from http://www.whatismyip.com on port 27015 to forward it to the PC where the server is running. So the client will be relayed to the LAN server to you but actually IS internet.

Servers will ALWAYS be LAN when you host them from behind a router or gateway. When the server is directly connected to the internet it will show up as internet.

Should there be any more problems please reply

Wow! ur talking on my crappy Post! YAY lol ive seen alot of your other posts like the one where u had like 30 pages talking to that guy with that animated pic of a penguin  ^^ anyway ill turn on DMZ but my freinds said that if u type in sv_lan and it says the server is a lan server then it is LAN but thanks for covering that with me. So ill:
Turn on DMZ
Think thats it lol some1 else said i should put my IP outside of my DHCP Range

Wait a sec are you saying i don't need to make server ip Static?

Ok well here's the deal,

as long as you don't "repair" or "refresh" (not sure how it's called in english, I got a crappy dutch windows version) the LAN connection in the configuration screen your IP is static. Once you "log in" to your router it asks an IP and holds it till you ask for a new one, but that doesn't happen unless you literally ask for it by repairing or refreshing the LAN connection.

When running DMZ all "unknown" traffic will be forwarded to the IP specified for the DMZ, in this case your computer with the server on it. This way you don't need any port forwarding at all because all connection will be forwarded to teh server. It also means, because the ports are all open, that your server will be wide open to the internet. Now some people, probably like your friend (not to mock them here, people like this are just very cautious which can be good but sometimes highly overreactive), immediatly think "OH NO, I'M GOING TO GET HACKED NOW!" This is however not the case, did everyone get hacked when there were no routers 10 years back? nope...
As long as you have a decent firewall with the SRCDS.exe process allowed in it your computer WILL be and mostly it will be even safer than using the router. I'm using a gateway here at my house, this means I have a central server DIRECTLY connected to the internet, everything is wide open to the net, I have 1 firewall and have never had a hack attempt logged, nor has it ever been hacked.
Here's an example:
Thinking of getting hacked because you're in DMZ is the same as thinking you will get hit by a car when you cross teh street in front of your house.

Well that's a lot of stuff on getting hacked, in theory the chances are so small YOU get hacked, but when you do you got the firewall that blocks it and no problem!

Well Ty that clears up alot BUT ive got server to work now anyway lol you helped me to do it by saying about the when i type in "sv_lan" it says its lan server. That will always say it if im behind Router. Thx for that. if any of you want to join my server its: !-[SPAZ]-! and IP: (i dunno im using Laptop at my freinds house at the mo lol ill reply MAYBE another time) and Port: 27015

I am having a similar but slightly different problem... I have a server behind the Router/firewall (DI-604) and ahve the +ip xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -port 27015 in the cmd line to launch the app. I have forwarded all the ports that portforward says to.

When I look at the server from the LAN it reports the game at 27015. When I search it on the internet it reports 63734. The port seems to change whenever I restart the game. Am I missing something in the PC setup or firewall that causes it to select a port randomly?

BTW... users can attach and play but because the port changes, their favorite settings fail.
