Garrysmod has no binary
#1
Is it just me, or when I do
./steam -command update -game garrysmod -dir ./garrysmod
it creates no srcds_run binary, or any at all.

How the hell am I meant to run the server :-S

And installing into a pre-exising CS Source server installation is not allowed, as it "Conflicts"

Any suggestions?

I think you can simply copy the binary from a different install, it's all the same one if I'm correct (it is for windows, don't think there will be different linux binaries)

Hey Drocona, thanks for responding.

I gave that a quick try, but no luck.

Copied all the srcds_ files over to where they should be, but nope, get the following:

Code:
ussclan@server30636:~/garrysmod$ ./srcds_run -game garrysmod
Auto detecting CPU
Using AMD Optimised binary.
Auto-restarting the server on crash
Failed to open bin/dedicated_amd.so (bin/dedicated_amd.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory)
Add "-debug" to the ./srcds_run command line to generate a debug.log to help with solving this problem
Wed Mar  7 01:40:29 GMT 2007: Server restart in 10 seconds

I copied the dedicated_ .so files over aswell, but still no luck.

Debug log shows:
Code:
ussclan@server30636:~/garrysmod$ cat debug.log
----------------------------------------------
CRASH: Wed Mar  7 01:45:31 GMT 2007
Start Line: ./srcds_amd -debug -game cstrike
End of Source crash report
----------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------
CRASH: Wed Mar  7 01:45:47 GMT 2007
Start Line: ./srcds_amd -game garrysmod -debug
End of Source crash report
----------------------------------------------

I didn't run cstrike that is when I put in no -game parameter.

I'll send Valve an email about this, could be a bug.
The only files in the /bin directory were client.dll and server.dll which I'm sure are files for Windows servers.

Edit: Just received an email from Valve - THERE IS NO LINUX PORT OF GARRY'S MOD!

Gutting!

Well that sucks, guess you'll have to wait or a release then or switch to windows =/

It's really annoying that the Steam program actually lists Garrysmod as an option to install which is very deceiving.

Though switching to Windows is an additional cost which must be justified, guess the boys are just gonna have to accept Garrysmod aint an option Sad
It was for a small server anyway, you can run usually up to 6 players fine on a home broadband connection.

Sorry I have to disappoint you, but garry said, linux binarys are at low priority for him, so for now, there won't be linux bins.

But you have some hope: You can run the server using Wine. I'm doing it - The server is quite fast in my opinion, but it takes about 3 minutes for me to start. But a friend of mine has had the same problem and just reinstalled linux - Now his server opens instantly.

Here you got a good instruction for setting up a server with Wine: http://www.garrysmod.com/wiki/?title=Dedicated_Server_Setup
