Server IP:
75.126.14.176:27015
Server Stats;
Pentium D 3.0
100mbit
2gb ram
30 slot
srcds standalone
fpsmax 300
tickrate 66
Symtoms;
when server is near full, it begins to lag, however, there is no choke, no loss, no high pings, simply.. its as if all players (and bots) set thier cl_updaterate to 1.. thier bounching all over the place..,
2 things ive noticed, in netgraph, the "in" is average 5-10/sec, on anther server with a similar machine but 6mbit, its average "in is 30+/sec.. kinda weird..
also in server console, the fps is average 10 during these times, and cpu is 80, btw it is set to run in high priority, and with the wmp enhancement..
pls do connect when its filled and see for urself to get a better idea what it looks like, and in netgraph..
someone pls help, ive gone through the servercfg a million times, theres nothign bothering it..
it is running a mod, but this same mod runs fine on other servers..
pls help , give me an idea.. this problem has been here since the start..

The CPU is too high, FPS is too low, which will result in less updates per second and will lag.
The in should be 66, FPS should be 256 at least.
Is hyperthreading turned off?
and how many players are in the server at that moment?
what mod?

there is no HT on the cpu
usally when it hits it could be 28-30 players
its running a zombie mod, however its a very light version compared to the others out there so theres no way its configuration could cause any damage, besides, before when the server was running and didnt have the mod the problem was the same..

nope, nothing.., just that..
this is why im here asking.. its bizzare.. im even considering the fact that the cpu may be damaged or something.., is there no way to debug the problem? or something in log to look for?..
its not cfg.. could it be a bad installation?, should i try the steam srcds?..
is there any other information i can give to help point inthe right direction?

Well you could try to disable the mod and the plugins youa re running with the same amount of players and settings and see if the CPU is still high, you'll know it's not the mod or plugins then.
see what program is actually using the 80% CPU

I had the same kinda lag problem on my gmod9 server. I tried deleteing some of the .lua files (mods for gmod), and it turns out that onw of them was causing the server to lagg. My CPU went up and up until it started lagging. Then srcds.exe took 300MB of memory.
Try deleting some of the mods on your server. Or first, try running it without mods. Then add one at a time.
(Uhh, dont even know if u have mods.. If not, then please don't punch me too hard)

im only running mani and 1 mod, and hlstatx on that server, now to make things interesting
server 2 ip:
74.105.61.69:27015
server2 setup;
pentium m 2.0
6mbit
srcds standalone
66tic
600 maxfps,
30 player server
same exact cfg (with hostname/password change), the exact startup line, only difference is hardware and connection, so same mods etc.. however server2 runs perfectly..
how in the hell could server2 (a dell xps laptop) beat a pro desktop server?.. a pent m is not a dual, nor is it even 64 bit.. its ancient now.. and 6 mbit vs a 100mbit and win..
like i said, the problem is not related to anything in srcds/game/mod
its gotta be in the connection or hardware settings.., would could cause a pent d 3.0 to not function at full? or a 100mbit to be limited.. or what could cause a low tic/server fps..?
should i tell the host for server 1 to check his hardware out for malfunctions? driver errors? or something?
btw, there arnt any lua files , there are some on my side but theyre movies for dawn of war ,

like I said before, the only thing that makes FPS drop is the CPU or memory in some extreme cases.
I have no Idea what's causing it....

Wow, ok after many weeks, i came across a fix from a fellow server op,
it was farking simple,
he said, set fps_max to 75 (???) i did it.. wow.. , now its like magic.. i dun understand how it works.. but it does.. its all good
but ive noticed something interesting, its been happening even before.., people will sometimes connect,.. but during downloads/connecting they "stall".. thier client is stuck in "connecting" or "spawning" only using rcon to kick em works, they can go play somewhere else, but randomly people will get stuck, maybe about 12 hours later theyll be dropped finally, or if i boot em..
it sucks because they take up player slots.., wtf is going on?, someone help? dracona, u there?

Yes I'm here,
I was just wondering, how does your network setup look and what connection do you have. This is so weird, youy always have problems with servers and people disconnecting and lag while there is nothing wrong with the server. I'm beginning to think that it's your network or ISP.
With 1 server you have had twice the amount of problems than me running over 50 servers.
There must be something wrong somewhere cause the server shoul run perfectly fine after a good install without ANY problems at all.
This issue has to be networking or firewalls cause the server just doesn't do that.

I just wanna note something for the cpus.
The Pentium-M Is based off the Pentium 3, and was pretty much considered the BEST chip out for a long time. it had 2MB cache before most chips had 1Mb or even 512KB. This is why i built 2 full servers using this chip, it was amazing then and its amazing now considering its really a mobile chip.
Pentium D's are considered very low level and cheap. Cost effective to put it simple. they're not the best for game servers, maybe web/database servers or as a gaming machine.
As far as your current issues, i agree with Dracona, its either a outside network problem(something with your ISP) or you have a screwy firewall or router. Bad Network cards can also be an issue as well as fault cables.
If this is a dedicated server which by running a whois on the first ip, i am to assume so, it'll normally say 100mbit, but you're not FULLY gaurenteed full on 100mbps its part of the shared network.
starting 9/24/2006 if your problem has been solved please edit your first post and add [solved] to the begining of the title. Thanks.
