[Solved] Server UPD port
#1
I haven't messed with srcds for about a month or two, so I decided to bookmark and check out Drocona's Source Dedicated Server Guide on Planet Half-Life. Not only did it refresh my memory, but I also learned some new stuff about srcds. Anyways, when I use "-ip <external ip>" like the instructions tell me to, I get a "Server UPD port" error. But, if I use "+ip <internal ip>" it starts up. I am behind a router and have these ports forwarded according to Drocona:
Quote:UDP 1200 (Friends Network)
UDP 27000 to 27015 (Gameport)
UDP 27020
TCP 27030 to 27039
TCP 27015 (SRCDS Rcon port)
Which am I supposed to use? If it is -ip then what could be my problem?

thanks,

Hi there mzracer,

you are supposed to use the internal IP, there was a mix up when editing the file for release on the web. This should be corrected soon, we are working on it very hard Smile

(should be the only error tho!)

It basically comes to this:
when you are behind a router use the IP from ipconfig
when you are not behind a router use the IP from ipconfig or whatismyip.com
friends always connect to the external ip found at whatismyip.com

So in your case, the internal iP

Thanks for clearing that up Big Grin! I thought it was strange, but I tried it anyways.

I have a problem, my server is running perfectly except that it's only a LAN I went to gametiger and my external IP (I use a Westell DSL Router) doesn't give any results (neither does STEAM) I opened up all the ports like shown in the guide and the my start line is as follows:
start /high /wait srcds.exe -console -game cstrike +map cs_office +maxplayers 16 -ip 192.168.1.97 -port 27015 -tickrate 66 +mp_dynamicpricing 0
(notice that I use the "Restarting srcds at crash" batch file to run SRCDS)

make sure no firewalls or anti-virus utilities are blocking the program, also if that doesnt work try to make a direct connection with the internet, if it works the router is your problem.

One other thing you could do is try the DMZ option in the router.

Your friends have to connect to the ip showing on this site for you: http://www.whatismyip.com
They can't connect to the IP above since that's your NETWORK ip, only you and people in the same network can join that.
