Server Usage Question
#1
Hello,

I was just wondering if there is anything I can do regarding the PF usagge on my dedicated server. I run a few css servers, my cpu usages is around 50% but my PF usage is at like 3.0GB (and i think it has 4 available). can I increase this somewhere? Also is it normal that these servers chew through RAM. I have 2GB and it says i have like 200MB free right now.

Thanks

are your servers pingboosted? -pingboost 3 uses quite alot of memory and CPU resources.

wow what kind of servers are you running? and for how long have they been running?

They shouldn't use that much memory at any time..

The arent -pingboosted

The machine was actually rebooted about 3 days ago for windows updates. The box has six servers running on it. I have yet to see the cpu usage go above 60%

-CSS Deathmatch mod 24 slots
-GunGame Deathmatch mod 20 slots
-DODS 30 slots
-CSS Server 20 slots
-CSS Server 20 slots
-CSS Server 24 Slots

The gun game, dod, and css death match server, are typically busy.. so that's about 70 clients. The other 3 css servers arent always busy, the most ive seen from those would be about another 30 - 40 clients. IVe had 100+ people connected to the machine though and the cpu usage looked normal. Its my ram that seems to be getting chewed up.
I realise the gun game and deathmatch mods use quite a bit, but this seems a little extreme. I was just wonder if there are any settings i can try out for the game servers or anything else ican do on the dedicated server. Perhaps even a variable in the launch command line. *shrug*

Thanks

Gungame is always very slow so that may be the culprit. I would try not running the gungame and try to see if that solves your problem.

Unfortunatly, i have to runa gungame sever lol, my community would flip out without it hahah. I like it too. Although, the deathmatch gungame might be doin it, ill try without the deathmatch running and see how it goes. i cant see that one change making a big difference though, ill report back.

deathmatch and gungame are most definately the porblem, they use craploads of ram Wink

Best to do would be to schedule a daily reboot at a time when almost no-one is ingame at all. It should fix the ram issue and improve performance on your servers.

The schedualed reboot sounds okay with me, but there is a few problems with this.

1) what do i use to schedual this, which utility do i use, i assume window2003 has something built in eh?
2) how do i get the servers to restart automatically? I have serverdoc installed but the way i have it, i have shortcuts to the servers in my startup folder, which means then only start when i login to the server... not when it starts up. Im not sure how other people go about doing this either.

A quick answer to question 1: Windows Task Scheduler. Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Schedule Tasks

2: Sorry, I'm a Linux person. Though since Windows is user-friendly it shouldn't be too hard to figure out as its wizard-driven.
