Windows or Linux?
#1
Hey Guys

Just a quick question.

Is srcds better on linux or windows?

The people I talk to have very different opinions towards linux
and windows. I just need to get clear in my head which one to use
more often. I did hear Windows Servers are more un-reliable and Linux contradicting that, is that true too?

Thanks for your time

Here's the deal.

At the moment the SRCDS will run better on Windows, it's designed for windows in the first place. However Valve made a Linux version too but it's crappy. Windows will always perform better than linux unless valve builds the linux version properly.
When they make the Linux version good (I doubt they will tho) the SRCDS will perform better on Linux (I think Linux will always be better than Windows server wise).
For now Windows is what you need.

Financially, the windows license is not worth the gains between windows and linux, or at least, as far as I can tell.

Linux is not the easiest thing to use, but, it is free!!

Hmm .. Well runs better under win maybe but I ran 1 tick66 16 player server on win and added one more with lag and shit as a result. With Linux I dont get any of those problems.
