well im not sure exactly what programs are installed on the server computer. Its not the one i use. I checked the taskbar, currently running applications, and i checked add remove programs. I didnt find any firewalls, (becides windows firewall). Im thinking it has to be some setting in my router config. How should i have my router set up? Its on DHCP settings. Should it be on staticIP? Like i said before i have the WRT54G v6 with 1.01.1 firmware installed. Maybe i need a hacked firmware?

Hi there Stormz. I've also been have this problem with both Listen and Dedicated servers in Garry's mod.
I believe the problem DOES have something to do with the WRT54G router;
Even with Norton or Window's Firewall on, My (Dedicated and Listen) servers show in the servers list when the Server Box/My Box is The connected Directly to the modem or through a Hub to the modem, But never shows on the list when the server Is behind my (WRT54G) router (But I do have the right ports open, and people connect via IP with no problems)
However, if i restart my router, and do "heartbeat" in the console, it DOES shows up for about 5 minutes, after Then it Just disappears from the list again when i hit refresh, and using "heartbeat" again doesn't work either.
I've Tinkered around the router to the best of my Ability, but I can't seem to find what might cause this. Even DMZ doesn't work. I sure hope someone can figure this out.

i fixed it. finally! if you want to know what did it, please send 10 dollars to.. lol jk i ended up getting a new router, and it works perfect.

So glad your able to run out and purchase a new router lol, I just got this one for christmas Iand can't afford another router right now. :\

I had the same problem as you. My dad opened up all ports from 27000 to 27100 both tcp and udp or whatever. Then in my server.cfg i put some parameters:
sv_lan 0
heartbeat
I believe that heartbeat will make it "speak" with the steam server list or something so that other people can see it.
At first, i couldnt see my scrds on the internet list. But then with this heartbeat thing, I could see it. But I can only conenct to the one appearing in LAN of course.

Well i returned my wrt54g, another good reason to keep receipts. i did upgrade to n1 tho. i got the Belkin F5D8231-4. I started the server. I didnt add this in before, but i contacted linksys for support, and they could not figure out the problem. i talked to 3 diffrent people. Thats when i decided to return the router.

heartbeat shouldn't be used, it's automatic and only works the first time you start it up anyways.
In other words, it's kinda useless adding it.
