Server not apperaing in list
#1
Yes, this problem again. I have looked through the forums, here, and everywhere trying to find an answer to this. most threads usually dead end, or they never get responces. Anyways, like i said my server is not showing up in the main list for steam. I am trying to run garrys mod. the external ip for the server is 74.65.140.196:27015, i have a wrt54g router with all required ports forwarded. People can connect to my server if i give them the ip. My friend says while im in the server, it tells him my lan ip, 192.168.1.100:27015, when he checks it on friends. Im running 2 computers on the network, one is the dedicated server, and the other is the client. I'm not sure what other information you need. Thanks for the help.

Hey dude,
Usually this problem really isnt a problem. About 90% of the time, if you are hosting a dedicated server on a LAN, and if you join that server from the LAN, you wont be able to see your server in the Main List. This is due to the fact that you cannot see your own external IP. However, other people can most likely see your server. Just make sure youve forwarded all the proper ports or DMZed your server computer. This happens to me and my server all the time. I just join via the local IP, and other people eventually pop in. My bro (who lives in a different state and has a different ISP) can add my server to his favorites with no problems. Hope this helps, peace out.

Well i see what you are saying, but i have a friend who checks the server(he is not on the lan, BUT he is on the same isp) and it dosnt show it to him if he searches servers, if he checks my friends game info while i am in the server however, it shows up, but it is my lan ip.
and also i have had my server up for i would say a month and noone has EVER joined that i didnt send the ip to.

Thats crazy.
Do you have the ports 27015 tcp AND udp forwarded to your server computer?

I think you only need ports 27000 - 27039 (tcp & udp) forwarded (according to valve), but I only forward port 27015 (both udp and tcp). can you post a screenie of your router control panel? Also, make sure you have sv_lan set to 0. Another thing that might help is to set sv_region to 255.

i have pinpointed the problem to my router. if i directly connect the server to the net, the server shows up. If i go through the router, it does not.

i think i may have found the problem, i needed to update my firmware on my router.

Well, i guess that wasnt the problem. It seems to have a mind of its own. It was working for a while and then suddenly it wouldnt be on the list. This is very confusing.

If people can connect to it given the IP then it sounds like your firewall could be masking it from the server list. Try disable of your firewall temporarily then check if your server is visable in the master server list. On my secondary pc used for servers it has an older version of Norton firewall and this has always been a problem.

Norton always gives trouble, every product they have f*cks up something.
I have very bad experiences with norton, both virus scanner plus firewall.

They just rip you off with the pricing in the first place, then it doesnt work, money gone and still nothing!
I suggest get a nice custom FREE scanner and firewall and everything is fine mostly (you need SOME knowledge tho Smile)
