SRCDS Not Starting - even with command lines

Exclamation
Hi,

I'm having some strange problems setting up a HLDM2 server.
I have downloaded and installed the SRCDS standalone server tool, and attempted to set it up one one of my pcs (we'll call it PC 1). When I try to run SRCDS with or without any commands such as, -game or -console, nothing happens at all. I've tried setting it up with a batch file too and put in as many commands as I could, with no results (not even just SRCDS -game hl2dm).

Running the GUI version within Steam seems to work o.k., but naturally I prefer to set up the standalone.

Now, here's the really weird part.

I packed up and transferred the entire folder (in my case "C:\hl2server") to the same root location on my games pc (let's call it PC 2) And it works every which way I try it. Even just launching the srcds with no command lines launches the GUI without problems.

When I tried the same again on my spare machine(lets say PC3) I get the same results as PC1 - nothing!

PC1 is an AMD 1900+ (1.6Ghz) with 256mb ram
PC2 is P4 3.0Ghz 1Gb ram
PC3 is PIII 1.2Ghz with 1Gb Ram

The only real difference is that PC 2 has steam and all my games on it (being the games machine), PC1 has steam but nothing on it except for HL2DM dedicated server. and PC3 has nothing at all (steam wise) and the copied HL2Server folder installed.

Please can someone help, I am really keen to create my own server seperate from my games machine.

Thanks in advance,

C:\hl2server\srcds.exe -console -game hl2mp -maxplayers 18 +map dm_overwatch

OK, now your feaking me out!

I've been trawling this forum all weekend and I knew you were good, Drocona, but now you're some kind of magician.

I was so sure I tried command lines like this, with no results. even threw in -debug and stuff like that.

Needless to say, thankyou, this works perfectly (even just "srcds -game hl2mp" works. God knows why this never worked before... Unless I was naming the game incorrectly. Most of the forum covers Counterstrike, and I was add libbing the hl2mp. unless I was using something else like hl2dm or something stupid, can't remember, been asleep since then.

Thanks again!

Now I'm off to look for tweaks like spawn protection for deathmatches and wonderful new levels to play with friends, and anyone else who joins - yay let's all kill each other.... 'welcome to the h.e.v. mark IV protective..... etc... ^^ Joy!

The complements are just credit where credit is due.

One other question though: Where can I find the resources ie lists of commands and variables so that I can write my script cfgs for things like spawn protection and server messages (like the ones that play sounds for head shots etc)?

I alread have the cvarlist for main server settings in the server.cfg file which is no problem, but I want the scripting stuff.

Any ideas? I've looked about and don't even seem to be able to find any tutorials or anything.

I'm sorry to say that there is no scripting support whatsoever, this is done in C++ language and if you don't know teh language it's really hard to do. You will ahve to figure out everything yourself + you need Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 which has a nice price tag.

You could use evenscripts or es_tools whatever it's called, it's a basic scripting language inside a built plugin if I understand that correctly. You might want to try that.
There are no built in functions to easily create stuff on your server, you have to program it.

Programming I can do. I think event scripts will cover my needs. I'll have a look for this es_tools.

Where can I find commands of the games? I am using -game cstrike and am running CS Source but nothing shows up on my LAN games. I've done all the communication troubleshooting. I was thinking that cstrike was for source and that's why I'm not able to see the game on my client?

First off, this thread is nearly a year old...
If you check the FAQ section, THIS THREAD has a list of all the games and how to see the game list. I updated that post last night Smile

Please do not PM me for server related help
