The bandwidth is another concern of mine, I dont really have a way to check how much I currently use as they are all rented servrers. Do you know of any way I can find out how much i should have? Everywhere i look seems to be in the 1.5 to 2TB range

And again: quadcore Xeon or Opteron, not dual CPU. Also you need at least 2GB ram (scheduled reboot every day) of 4GB ram. 2TB bandwith will do, at least in the beginning.

Hey Guys,
I spoke with rich at defconservers.com & this is what he has available in Chicago.
Dual Xeon 3.4Ghz HT
2 x 3.4Ghz -2x2mb Cache
4GB DDRII 400mhz
SCSI HDD (not sure of size)
2000GB Transfer
$279/month (approx.)
what are the odds of this machine working for me? He unfortunaly doesnt have any quad core machines available in chicago.

how full are your servers? if all are full then you'd get lag during map changes for sure. that's really only 2 procs, hyperthreading doesn't count. what are your pings to texas?

In the late evenings, its not uncommon for my public servers to be near capacity, that's a total of about 70 66tick slots. I expect to see a big drop in traffic though if i make this move, with the ip's changing and all. (major draw back to this whole move).
Im in the east coast of canada, if i ping texas i get high 90's to 100, I wish it wasnt the case because machines seem to be much cheaper to rent there. Also, a lot of my community members are located in canada & in the top of the usa. chicago is deffinatly the best option. I tried pinging some ips in NYC, its a bit better then dallas but its still higher then chi. I get around 70 in nyc and about 40 in CHI.

70 slots at tr66 full will work on a good dual cpu server, but still I prefer a quad cpu system.

P4 will nog work, Dual xeon will. But I would invest in Dual(core) Opteron or Dualcore Xeon (C2D, not the old burt ones).

clovertown will beat dempsey, 53xx is based on the core duo, dempsey is based on presler aka netburst architecture (old and slow even if mhz is faster)

I think im going to go with this now;
Dual Core Dual Xeon 5130,'Woodcrest' 4x2mb Cache
4 x 2.0Ghz Processors
2GB ECC 667 Ram
250GB SATA II HDD
2000GB Transfer
I wasnt planning on getting a machine like this but I guess it will give me some room to grow. This should be able to do what Im looking for without a problem eh?
