map file size problem
#1
Question
Hey, im runnin a surf server, and these maps get rather large, i was wondering if there is a way to optimize the download of these files because im looking in my console and its spitting this at me when someone joins...for example, on surf_water-run....

CreatFragmentsFromFile: 'maps/surf_water-run.bsp' size exceeds net_maxfilesize limit (16MB)

this pops up in the console everytime someone joins that doesnt have the map, and they end up disconnecting....what is this and how do i fix it?

couple things you can do:

1) net_maxfilesize 32 or bigger than your biggest map in server.cfg

2) bzip the map and upload to a webhost to use sv_downloadurl which will allow for faster downloads to your clients, d/l from the server itself is limited to your sv_rate or sv_maxrate (i forget which one is the right one, it's the rate one regardless)

with the webhost, do i need to have the .bsp files as well? or can i just have the .bzip

The bzip is only for download, the bsp needs to be on the server and client.
So you install the .bsp on the client,
upload a bzip to the download url,
when a client downloads the bzip the engine will automatically extract it.

Did you make a correct tree?
By this I mean:

http://www.hostname.com/username/cstrike
http://www.hostname.com/username/cstrike/maps
http://www.hostname.com/username/cstrike/sounds

like that, the tree has to be the same as the original SRCDS on the server
set sv_downloadurl http://www.hostname.com/username/cstrike

delete the skins from your client, join the server, see if they download

if not make sure if you're using mani that you have auto download on, if that doesnt work make .res files for the skins
