In the tutorial it says create the server .cfg.... HOW??? What do you put in it? Why does the freakin thing leave you hanging without important information?

I opened up notepad and saved it as server.cfg and it just saves it as a tex document with the name server.cfg

i totally agree. everyone makes it appear you do the download and you are ready to go but there is alot of info missing in the middle that i still at this point have not gotten.

Its the same way on the steam website. Its pretty much the same stuff just on the steam site it tries to tell you how to setup a Hl1 and Source server at the same time which is not the same damn thing.

So now that I've spent two nights working on this I figure I'll just delete it all and start over some other day.

2nd post from the top in THIS FORUM section is a server.cfg resource thread. read that and cut/paste whatever options you need.

EDIT: i'll create a link in case you can't figure it out

I searched the board before I even made an account. I have been reading that and found only one thing that would help me out of all the pages. It hasn't helped me very much.

Funny thing is, the guide says to create a server.cfg, but never says how. And opening up notepad and saving it as server.cfg does not do a damn thing for me. So fill me in on how you create this god like file.

I'll make it easy for you, here is my server.cfg, feel free to use it.
All you have to do is put it in the cfg directory.
open it with notepad, edit it to your needs and you're set.
When you read it you'll think "That's all?" yep that's all Smile
Have fun

did you read any of the posts in the server.cfg resource thread (try reading post(s) 7-9)? they tell you where to put it, how to create it, and how you to fix it (the most common problem the ".txt" thing) if it still doesn't work. as for what goes in it, that's up to you, i would suggest starting with post 13 and changing what you need.

Thanks man I'll try it out just to get things setup. I think my freinds computer I was putting the server on last night was the reason why it wouldnt work right.

Ok I get this error: http://img293.imageshack.us/my.php?image=steamerrorxi5.png

And the server runs and I can join it on LAN but none of my freinds can see it. I AM GIVING THEM my external IP. All ports are open.

OMFG IT WORKS! Thank you guys this was giving me such a headache. Now I'm backing it up and trying to install zombie mod rofl.

I STILL GET THIS ERROR WHEN LAUNCHING THE SERVER http://img293.imageshack.us/my.php?image...rorxi5.png

That error pops up when you have steam running on the same computer, simply exit steam and the error will disappear.
Other than that it's irritating at startup, it doesnt do anythign to the server, the server will run normally after you click ok.

Alright thats good. I just trashed the whole install and starting it fresh so everything is in order. I was tying to install Zombie MOD but can't get it to work with metamod. It just says FAIL and does not list the mod.

Reinstalling today see if I can get it to work.
