Need help with my downloads server...
#1
Hi,

I have a downloads server for maps, player models and sounds. We have a lot of content which is quite unique but my downloads server isn't really protected.

I want to protect it using .htaccess, basically with a list of IPs of my gaming servers. Anyone who wasn't redirected to download from the gaming servers needs to be denied access.

Does anyone have any ideas what my .htacess file should look like?

Cheers!

Can you not just put the address in the download url in the server.cfg?

Thatway, on map change, if its a map people dont have they automatically download it from your remote server.

The problem is that any of the players can simply type sv_downloadsurl (Or whatever it is) in the console and they know where all my custom content is....which means any little squirt out there, who doesn't want to pay for bandwith for his own downloads server...can just use mine instead....

Cheers.

I'm not sure on .htaccess I think you really have to enter a PW etc for that, which the server doesnt support.

You might be able to make a virtual webserver that allows only connections from the server IP.

don't think it works that way, i believe you can add blocks individually but cannot block all except for one (which is what you want).

You can if you have a MS IIS webserver.

if you're that worried you can use something like webalizer and have it parse your logs then present you a web page with the top referrers. if you get one site that is leeching all the time then .htacess it.

Webalizer does this standard.
