What best O/S for Linux should I using to run Counter-Strike: Source Dedicated server for LAN Party... I'm not expert with Linux and would like Linux using desktop instead of type the command lines all the time
Ubuntu 6.10 any good??
Do I have to using ROOT or normal account with own username?

Well the server should NEVER be ran in root, so yes make a user like srcds or something.
There's not a "best" Linux to run, each has it's own stuff. Just what you like.

Yea i like Slackware (Stable, No BS & best for Security), Debian (for the apt-get), CentOS (for being lazy, lol), GenToo (just ask the guy over at SK) i also like FreeBSD (runs faster and its stable).
There you go, 5 of them! lol =)
Those are good for command line distro, but you want to know desktop also your new to the Linux world... I would say go for Ubuntu or Fedora Core, also remember you can Max out for your settings for LAN parties & Redo your Kernel so you can get the best FPS...
Good Luck!

I prefer Ubuntu, although I've heard that Debian and CentOS is good for game servers.

you can have command lines with any distro, it all depends on how you configure the startup.
