It really depends on how many slots/servers you plan on runnng.

hum.. wat do u mean with slots? =/ i dont want nothing too big just a normal server with mani admin plugin for 10 or 12 players..

You can run a 20 player server on a 1GHz CPU, 512MB RAM and an upload of 2Mbit/s (33Tick)
I think pretty much everyone has a 1GHz.

12 players you would need at least 768 Kbit/s upload

Also higher tickrates require much much more CPU, RAM and ALOT more bandwidth
I had a 2.8GHz with 40 100tick slots at a LAN party and it was at 90% CPU, dont remember bandwidth, but it was alotToungue

what's your upload speed?
#6
Do u think a PIII 1.0Ghz with 512Mb will do? My upstream is 384 Kbps n my downstream 8192 Kbps... Another thing, i have an account on CSS 4 me to play, if i create a dedicated server (in this case in another Pc) i have to buy another key to create an account ? Cause probably if i enter the dedicated server with my account i wont be able to play css in my pc, cause the account is being used =/ am i wrong?
#7
For your Account question - Well it Depends on if you are using a standalone server (doesnt need a steam account)
#8
Can u be more expecific? =/ ive just started with this server things now, wats a standalone server? My idea is to set up a Pc tat i dont use anymore ( PIII 1.0Ghz 512Mb ) to be a server for Css, i came up with the idea of dedicated cause i dont have to pay so i dont know wats a standalone server or how it works =/

Sry 4 being n00b btw.. lol

I don't think with that kind of upload you can get anything decent even over a 10 slot. But yeah you can try, you can always experiment Big Grin

with that upload speed you can run 4-6 players over the internet, so if you connect from the LAN and always play you might be able to squeeze out 8 players but it would be on the edge of lag/non lag.

As for the 1GHz PC, it will hold out easily, I have pretty much the same here, P3 933MHz and 6xxMB RAM though it's monitored constantly and RAM never goes above 400MB. Mine has MySQL, Apache, Abyss, FTP and 2 CS servers running, 1 server always empty and one with 8 players and 12 bots (zombie server). So running only a CS:Source server will do fine Smile

Standalone server can be installed with the HLDSUpdateTool.exe search it on google and you shall find. This way you don't need another steam account, it's free.

I just wanted to say that I'm running a 8 slot server 66tick with 1.5Ghz and ONLY 128MB RAM with hardly any lag. I've done some tweaks though..
