Internal/External IP address?
#1
Question
When I start srcds, it connects successfully and loads everything, but it always sets my server's IP to 10.0.0.4. Is there a command to set it to my external I.P. address, and can other players see my server? Thanks!

It tells me that it can't allocate the dedicated server UDP port. What should I do next?

Here's what I did:

started 'run'

typed "c:\srcds\srcds.exe -console -game cstrike +map mcdonalds-mds -maxplayers 20 +ip 66.72.195.243"

error box appeared while the console was scrolling through loading messages.
I am extremely confused.

You can't bind your external IP to a computer that's internal.
You have to bind the internal ip to the server and make your router forward the ports to that internal IP.

Unless your server machine is connected directly to the internet, which means your external IP has been assigned to your server machine, you can't bind it.

EDIT: Typo's

Ok, I get it, and I know how to forward ports, but which ones do I change?

[UDP] 1200 (used for Steam's Friends service)
[UDP] 27000 to 27015 (so that means all ports in between too)
[TCP] 27030 to 27039 (idem)
=> these are all Steam related ports

[UDP] 27015 and 27020 (default DS port, also used for HLTV)
[TCP] 27015 (you want to forward this for RCON access)
=> these ports are used by the dedicated server itself

**I forwarded all the ports, but typing status reveals 10.0.0.4. Can other people connect to it? Will other people see the external IP when the status command shows the internal IP? Thanks!

If 10.0.0.4 is you LAN ip (you can find this with ipconfig) then yeah, it'll work.

Quote:Can other people connect to it even though it shows up in 'lan servers'?
I tried adding the external IP to 'favorite servers' in xfire, it couldn't draw up server info.
It also couldn't connect externally to the server in the integrated CS:S server browser.

Can somebody please try to connect to 67.38.253.194? I would really like to know more about this issue!

You know what, just forget it. I'm uninstalling everything.
