Xbox Running SRCDS? [It runs it!]

The computer in question is a 700MHz computer with 64MB of RAM running GentooX. It is running Ventrilo and VNC fine, do I have hope for running SRCDS without upgrading the RAM (I can't do that, I would have to solder the chips on).

Im sorry to say but 64MB of ram is not nearly enuff. youll need about ten times that much to run a decent 8-10 slot server.

heh, srcds on the xbox, try it, probably won't get many slots though. try the dreamx, theres a 1.4GHz xbox with i think 128MB of ram, or more, cna't remember.

you'll need to set the swap partition higher, norally swap is double the ram unless you have
2GB of ram or more, then you can just do 1 GB partition. Since you're running VNC i assume you're running X that'l degrade srcds performance. starting 9/24/2006 if your problem has been solved please edit your first post and add [solved] to the begining of the title. Thanks.

I added a new filesystem with 4000MB called "source". With a simple emerge ncompress, I was able to uncompres the hldsupdatetool.bin. The content downloaded fine, I'll see what happens tonight.
I also killed VNC for now, it automatically starts GDM and XFCE4, I can turn that off though. Edit: IT WORKS!!! 4 slots!

To get a good server going, you might have to cluster like 3 or 4 of them since each only has 64MB of ram.
My friend is going to cluser 4 DreamX-1480 xbox's and run Gentoo X, each xbox is 1.4GHz with 256MB of DDR ram. starting 9/24/2006 if your problem has been solved please edit your first post and add [solved] to the begining of the title. Thanks. |
