Feds are investigating me for something I did online years ago
#1
Hey everyone, I am kind of panicking right now. I got a call from a federal agent yesterday saying they want to talk about some stuff I was involved with online a few years back, some hacking forum I used to hang out on. I have not done anything in years, but they are asking questions, and I do not know whether to respond or stay quiet.

The worst thing you can do right now is talk to them without a lawyer in the room, even if they act friendly and tell you it is just an informal chat, because every word you say gets written down and can be used to build a case against you. Federal agents do not call people up to clear the air, they call because they are already building a file, and anything you volunteer just fills in the gaps for them. A computer crime attorney who knows how these investigations work is your first call https://arkadybukhlawfirm.com/practice-areas/criminal-defense-cyber-crime/ .

A guy I knew from back in the day had agents show up at his door over some old forum activity, and he started explaining himself right there on the doorstep, ended up making things way worse.
