srcds: Server not showing in search
#1
So Im kind of a noob. I set all my settings correct (i think) and I can't get my server to show in steam search. I have a cable modem, a netgear RP614v2 router and sometimes very little common sense. I think it has something to do with my ip. Out of everything I read, it sounds like I am suppose to change my server.cfg file; however, I can't find it for the life of me. Anyway, my ip when I start the DS is my router ip (192.168.0.3) instead of my external. help me please.

I think because its local you'll only find it in the LAN list, try searching your external IP on say gametiger.com or game-monitor.com Make sure you either forward ports or dmz your LAN IP as well.

server.cfg sets certain cvars for your server such as the nserver name, password, rcon password, and settings.

There is no console command for forwarding ports. go to portforward.com and follow the guide to portforward for a steam server on your router. or just DMZ your ip (this will leave you open)

No, you MUST use your LAN ip (you might not even need the +ip switch at all to be honest) if you're behind a router. however, if people use your external IP they'll still connect, for others they'll see your external IP. so long as you port forward or DMZ your LAN ip for the server.

It comes up because you don't have server.cfg
you need to create it and place it in cstrike/cfg

go to the server.cfg Thread here on the forums, copy one of the lists.

Open notepad, paste it there, edit it to your needs.
go to file>save as.
in the window select save as ALL Files
in the name box type server.cfg
