You don't need steam for srcds (Source Dedicated server).

Ok thats the steam dedicated server....very very crappy. On the top of this page there is a button, "tutorials". Go to the one that says Install Windows for windows of course and install linux for linux. it walks you though step by step on how to download it and get it started. It does take a few hours tho as it's a lil over a gigabyte. You will be most pleased after it had finished. More pleased then with the steam one atleast. Any more questions just ask Smile

It is probably because the complete installation didnt finish or one of the files corrupted itself during the transfer. Both things do happen quite alot. It happened to me and I dont know how many times I had to close command prompt and had to type in
hldsupdatetool -command update -game "Counter-Strike Source" -dir C:\srcds
before i got the whole thing.

or maybe i moved it to the steam user account folder to replace the old source dedicated server

Well by default the hldsupdatetool will download the dedicated server to C:\srcds. If you hover over the download folder and it's less then 1 GB then the download quit somewhere during the process.
