What could this machine handle
#1
Hey guys,

If I just wanted to host one 100tickrate counter-strike:source server on either of these machines what do you think my max player slots could be?

SETUP #1
-----------------------
Intel Celeron D 2.66GHz
512MB DDR Ram
80GB SATA
1000GB Bandwidth
10Mbps Uplink

SETUP #2
-----------------------
P4 2.8Ghz
512MB DDR RAM
80GB IDE
1500GB Traffic
10Mbps Uplink

Also, if I went to 1GB ram for either of these options, would that increase the player slots, if so by how many would you think?

Thanks! =)

Well I'm sure you won't be able to host anything above 6 players on that Celeron. Celeron has low cache and is as slow as a turtle on land. My 1GHZ P3 is about twice as fast as the 2.66GHz Celeron.
Also 512 MB is very low to run a server, I'm on 500MB with a 10 player server 33 tick

and what about a system like this?

3.2GHz Intel Pentium4 w/HT
1GB 3200 Dual Channel
120GB SATA HD
1TB Monthly Data Transfer

we currently have:

3200+ AMD Athlon64
1GB 3200 Dual Channel
120GB SATA HD
1TB Monthly Data Transfer

This runs a 28 man great but we are looking to run two servers, one 32man and one 10-20man

Well you could try, I think if it's fully dedicated it should be able to make it

Thats not correct exaxxion. You cant base slots on just pc usage. How can you recommend that without asking what their upload bandwidth is. Yeah it says 1TB monthly transfer but that doesn't state how fast their connection is.

What if I want to run at 100tickrate? ideally, what I am looking for is a machine that I could put all of the services I am currently out sourcing. I Would like to have two 20slot 100tk servers, hlstats, webpage, and possibly ventrilo if it permits, all on the same machine. I just dont know what I need to rent for specs. I dont wanna over kill it, im not looking to spend $300/month. Any thoughts on the kind of machine I would need to do the above mentioned?

instead of criticizing my reply, go help someone in need. upload bandwidth? he didn't mention it so I assume 10Mbps and above and 100 slots on 33 tickrate can be hosted on 10Mbps line no problem. How many servers do you have and how much experience do you have in game hosting? Now stop your bullshit and please mind your own business. Thank you.

If you don't need other opinion, don't post asking "how many slots can this machine handle"

why don't you go make your own and try it?

ex, i assume you ment 100 slots at 33 tick, i am interested in running about 40ish slots at 100tick. All I wish to know is the kind of machine I need to RENT to do this. I will not be doing colo, so I cant go out and "build my own" as you kindly suggested.

At least a dualcore or dual cpu one (dual 244 wil do or dual xeon 2.8 with 1 gb of ram).

Ex: stop the nubie flaming.

we are now looking to build a:

Intel Pentium 4 Dual Core, 3.2GHz, 2x2MB Cache
250GB SATA-HD
1,024 Dual-Channel DDR2-533

I am guessing:
100 - 33tic
80 - 66tic
30 - 100tic
