What can my tickrate for my server be

P4 3.0ghz
512 ram


sv_minrate 5000
sv_maxrate 999

10mb/256 connection(i know the upload is bad) but i'm gettings 800 later.

what tickrate number. 100, 66 , 33, 45, 40,50 ....

Because its kind of overkill to run a 100 tic server. You need lots of processor power and a high bandwidth connection to run a real 100 tick. 33 is best for home machines.

ok if i get 800 upload and 1gb ram could i run a 66

depends on the players, i have a 33 tick 8 player (maybe I can make 10 if I push it) on 512kbps.. almost full usage on my connection you figure ^^

useally u get choke at evey new round of a game.

and in battles.

if i'm correct then i can run 100 tick easy it only gets choke start of a round and when theris alot of action

you might be able to run it easily on 4 players, 100 tick requires ALOT of bandwidth, mostly the standard datatransfer per player is 10+ kB/s you do the math.

Your server will choke up whenever it get's close to the bandwidth limit or when the CPU can't handle it.
Choke brings down the update per sec (mostly), update per sec is your tickrate. When you get choke your tickrate drops, when you get this at 100 tick it is very likely to drop even below 66. Which means it's useless to run a 100 tick server on that connection you have. Smile

i run a dods server now to. the defautl tickrate is 66 . i can handle 6 players but after 1 more join it will lag if i made it 33tick could i handle more.

yes you would be able to handle more. low tick=low bandwidth high tick=high bandwidth

say on averge at 66 tick i can handle 6-8 depending on the players.
if it was 33 tick could i handle 14 on dods

what u mean push?
sometimes when heaps of people at the same time i get a lag spike on 66 tick

even though people don't have high ping they get kicked for execedding the ping limit
