Struggling with getting External IP working.[newbie]
#16
Well I've managed to get it working fully, other than when I run the console version it doesnt work! Only the GUI version. Are there any required parameters I pass to make the console one work?

Currently it's just;
" -console +ip 10.0.0.106 -game cstrike"

-console -tickrate <30-101> +ip <ip> +hostport <port> -game cstrike +maxplayers <1-256> +map <mapname>

There are some others but they are not important, just for customising a bit altho i forgot.. search on the forums or some wiki page, i'm sure you'll find it

I had the same problem. Its NAT, it screws the SRCDS packets up when using PPOE. When i tried using the same method you did, i could only get one player on my server. What you need to do is by a modem that supports PPPOA, and use the computer with SRCDS on it to connect to the net, then the SRCDS should see the correct external ip address. Also you need to use microsoft internet sharing or sim program to share the internet with the other computers on the LAN. Im running mine on Server 2003 with built in Internet sharing with 7 LAN clients of it.

EDIT:

Linky: PPOA: http://www.dslreports.com/information/kb/PPPoA

Quote:There may be difficulties combining NAT and PPP or PPPoE implementations.. it generally makes things more complex.

Thanks lodle but I've already managed to get it working without that. Smile

That works Drocona cheers, when you run the console it still runs the server.cfg doesnt it? So any settings and stuff I want in there will still apply?

Thanks alot.

Yes it still loads the server.cfg unless you specify a different one.. I'm sure the was a command for it to add to your shortcut but it's one of those I don't remember.

SRCDS always loads server.cfg unless you tell it to use a different one.

np, I'm here to help people, I think everyone should be able to run a nice server for their friends or community.

Cool.
Well, after finding out I'm unable to run the server on my Mac, i'll have to just stick to running it on my laptop or my PC.
Either way, you've all been a big help, and now I know how to get it all working correctly.

Thanks again Smile

Oh, one more question; What's a good Tick Rate?

I think the best tickrate for servers is around 66, the game is fast paced without lag and if you have some CPU/FPS drops it still keeps away the lag.
please note that when pushing the tickrate up your CPU usage and bandwidth increases rapidly
