Fast Download
#1
I have several custom CSS maps on my server, and they are rather large, so I was wondering what you have to do to enable fast downloads?

Your wanting sv_downloadurl which is a HTTP download and needs a HTTP server. You'll probably want it on a dif computer and line.

Hears a tut on it.

I set it all up, but for some reason, I cannot log on to my server through http, only ftp. I can access the main page with http, just not my special counter strike source directory. How can I fix that?

make a subdir in the dir where your mainpage is and put the files in there, then you should be able to get into the server with HTTP support

you have to make a folder like /cstrike
point your sv_downloadurl to http://youwebpathhere/cstrike

in cstrike create /maps and put the custom maps in there.
you have to make the exact same structure as the cstrike folder on your server. so if you want to add a sound you make a map /sound and put the sound files there.

Here is the current file structure.

http://www.web.com/cstrike/maps/

I don't think any of the maps come with sounds so that isn't a problem.

if your sv_downloadurl is pointed to the cstrike folder it should work..
do you have sv_allowupload and download enabled?

btw: plz edit your webadress to mywebadress or something, don't give the exact name as someone can put it in their server cfg and steal your bandwidth Smile

The derectory must allow public access.
Also you must upload all of CS:S there not just maps. Everyting. All the materials and all that.

just to take away confusion:
that doesnt mean you have to upload THE WHOLE cstrik folder to your space, just the all the custom files you haveRolleyes

the cstrike folder is like 900megs big, most ppl don't have enough bandwidth nor disk space for that on their hosting account

My cstrike foldering is around 2 gigabytes because of all of the extra customs maps I have. Big Grin I just copied all of the maps to the server from the computer that I play CSS on, so they didn't need any custom files. I have allowed uploads and downloads in the config.
