Decals show up local but not running in server
#1
Sad
Hi,

Been looking on the net but found nothing yet.

I have a decal in my counterstrike source map that is visible in hammer and when i run the map localy (create server in counterstrike) it is visible.

When i run the map on my dedicated server i can not see the decal.

If i delete the map and all related files from my machine and run the map on my (windows) srcds server i do not see the decal. If i then run the map localy i see it so it is in the server BSP.

The texture is embedded with pakrat, as is the nav and the txt and they all show/work when i run the map from the server.

Map comiles without errors, server loads the maps without errors and client runs map without errors.

I also run the mani_admin plugin on my server

Can it be that there is a setting missing on the server?

Thanks for your time

maybe you have to add the model to the server downloads?

other than that, theres nothing i can think of what might cause this

Have added it to server download directory but that did not solve it.

I mean add it in a .res file for the map.
This will make you download the decal to your client, maybe it will be visible then.
Sorry for not explaining enoughSmile

add the decal in your models folder, see if it works then.

Maybe someone else on the forums got a suggestion? since i don't have alot experience with mapping/modelling stuff on serversShy

Tried the res file and again no luck there.
The weird/frustrating part is that the decal is there when i run the file localy.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll keep looking and trying

maybe you can try to make them seperate files, so not included in the .bsp

i can tell you how to set it up(i have a few decals on my server) but i have to clarify one thing. Is the decal part of the map or is a a custom one that you just want to add to the wall?

i have a few examples that you can see if you open up these up in photoshop

just download the .vtfs and take a look.

Hi,

Thanks for all the anwsers. Smile
I will probably end up setting the decal up as seperate files but i would like to embed it in the bsp.
I'm experimenting at the moment with a smaller map with several ways of setting up the decal and also some fresh decals to make sure it's not the decal itself thats broken.

It is a "credits" decal stuck to a piece of metal.
I will make a small map and do some expermentation and will report back here.

Ok did some more testing.

I changed it to a texture and if i apply the texture to a brush it shows first time round so it's either that decals don't load first time or i messed up the decal stuff.

Let you know if i find out more
