Host Dedicated Server for My Mod? (crashes)
#1
I posted this on the steam support forum, but not much help there. I hope this is the right place to ask something like this.

I am developing a mod with the 2007 source engine. It has been compiled as a Release and is playable with no issues. When I go to start a dedicated server with the "Source Multiplayer Dedicated Server" under Tools, it shows in the list and I can configure the settings.
When I click the Start Server button, it shows the box saying "Starting dedicated server..." and then crashes with no error or message.

I also tried using SRCDS to get it going, but it also crashes right after I put in a startup command (c:\srcds\srcds.exe -console -game mymod +map mapname -maxplayers 16 -autoupdate). It will bring up another cmd window with information and then closes too quickly to read. There are some crash dump files generated after trying both ways, but I don't know how to use them.

I am able to start a listen server within the game itself, but not dedicated. What are the extra steps to get this going?

Hard to know what's wrong since you haven't posted any information about this plugin.

It's more likely to be a plugin related issue than a SRCDS issue.

This has nothing to do with a plugin. It's a full mod on the source engine using the SDK. And, nothing big has been done with it. Only a little menu change so far, its basically still the stock HL2DM. I need to get the multiplayer to work so I don't waste lots of time finishing this thing.

Add "-pause" to the commandline & the box will stay open after the crash.

Otherwise you will need to check the dmp files from the crash to find out what is causing it.

Ok, I got it to start by updating the orangebox install with hldsupdatetool. But, it comes up with a bunch of problems like:
Code:
CSoundEmitterSystem::AddSoundsFromFile:  No such file scripts/level_sounds_e3_c17.txt
Also
Code:
Error reading weapon data file for: weapon_bugbait
Error reading weapon data for: weapon_annabelle

If I try connecting to the server, it will stop on "sending client info" and then srcds.exe will stop responding.

Hmm. Is you're game based upon the orange box engine? And specifically which one? HL2 EP2 or? You may need to grab some EP2 materials models all that good stuff. I know for GMOD you do, but I don't specialize in Gmod. Do you have steam? I can help you with this if you want, I like challenges Smile

I started the mod with the 2007 engine on the SDK as a Half Life 2 Multiplayer Mod. Without changing anything it came up as Half-Life 2 Deathmatch. Yeah, I have Steam, you can add me, fsmdk. I'll be on later tonight, will be out most of the day.

Ok, I never see Cookies911 online and hasn't replied to my PM. So, is there anyone else that can help me with this issue?

Hmm maybe try running -verify_all a couple times and see if any files are missing / corrupt.

I've done it to both orangebox and hl2mp and still the same problem. Crashes when sending client info. Last line in the cmd window shows that I connected.

If it's any help, I've uploaded one of the dump files from when it crashed.

Hey guys, I have exactly the same problem as empmdk with the same crash dump.

Did you ever resolve this?
