My VPS's Power for my Servers?
#1
Hey SRCDS Community!
I'm here to ask about my VPS, and how powerful it can be.

I have a..
Xeon E55xx/E56xx 2.4Ghz
2GB DDR 3 RAM (Upgradable)
60GB RAID 10 Drives
1GB Uplink

I wanted to run..
2 Garry's Mod Servers
1 DarkRP, 32 Slot, 66 tick, 250 FPS
1 UCH, 16 Slot, 66 tick, 250 FPS

1 Minecraft Server
6-8 Slot Minecraft Server

I run each game on each core, excluding the first core, which is the core I use to run programs etc.

Would I be able to run it?

A VPS is not ideal for server hosting because of shared resources.

I can't get a Dedicated, not yet at least. It was VPS or GSP, and my friend told me to go with a VPS.
Although, everything is guaranteed.

You sure it's a VPS, as a SHARED server and not a PRIVATE server.

Well I don't know what to tell you?
Are we going to argue about MY vps? I just wanted to know what I am capable of running, IF those are the specs given.
Of course, no one knows if they're ripping me off or not, but me and the company owner have quite a bit of trust, so I would believe my server is what it is.

I suppose those games are not so sensitive to small lags, so it can actually work. But, a 32 slot server is quite big and even difficult to host on a real dedicated server. In any case, you will probably be better off renting servers from a GSP.

Probably yes then. Well it depends on how much stuff people spawns on your GarrysMod servers. Smile

Hm, let's see.
Well max prop is 20. So I do believe it might lag.
I wanted to get a 200$ Dedi, but I don't have that type of money.
Is their anyway to stress test a server, with results I could understand?

Hmm besides real players there isn't much to go around with.

Bots is not ideal testing for GarrysMod... they don't spawn props Big Grin

I know, my old GSP I think mighta ripped me off. At 18+, the server's datastream started to fail, and lots of other things.

Should I change it to 33 tick so it can handle more, or possibly lower the fps on that 32 slot server?

hmm shouldn't be necessary. It think you can handle it, as long as players don't spawn heavy props.

Well imagine 20x32 props. That's pretty heavy on the server, I've tried before.
I've seen massive 64 slot servers, and their prop max is 5 or 7? It's really server intensive.
I decided to make the FPS 128 and tick 66.

simple rule: if you want to run big servers, you need big hardware. a VPS is not big hardware, regardless how much resources they "guarantee" you. there is even a chance that the VPS is completely unsuitable for hosting game servers. make sure you can cancel the server easily (i.e. after each month) and try it out. else you will always risk wasting a lot of money. it might even be that the situation changes after some time when the provider puts more customers on your hardware node.

ah and: garry's mod is orangebox, right? then run with fps_max 67 or so to have the fps equal the tickrate. high fps bring no advantage, and only slightly larger fps than tickrate are even worse.
