RAM should be like 200-400 MB per server, so 2 GB should be enough for 3 GS.

If you plan to run high slot count servers you should buy a cpu that is as fast as possible [b]per core[b/]. srcds is single threaded and can use only one core. for running 3 such big servers you will also need a quadcore (1 core per server).

how much slots can this run. if u want high slots with 2 x 300GB SAS harddisk inside it
server spec is Intel Core i7-980X Hexacore 3,3Ghz hyper threading. 3.3Ghz 24GB DDR3 RAM , 2x 300GB SAS harddisk , NIC 1Gbit onboard 100Mbit network connection and unlimited bandwidth.? how much highslots can ir un?

looks good. you should probably ask the provider to disable hyper threading and turbo boost in the BIOS, as both are known to reduce performance in case of game servers.

how many slots this machine can host can nobody tell you without trying it out. it depends on many more factors but only on the CPU - especially on your personal demands on the quality and on the configuration you use. also, usually the number of servers itself presents a stronger limit. in case of high slot-count servers I would say the limit is at one server per core, i.e. 6 servers in your case.

SAS hard drives will not increase performance of game servers, so you can save money by using standard SATA disks.

Actually, srcds is multi threaded, it runs on 2 cores,
1. Networking
2. Physics and etc.

Thats why sometimes you see srcds using more than 100% cpu.
But yeah, i7 is not the best way, Xeons are good because they are made to work better with servers, if you need game and server computer (Not recommended) take i7.

The Core chips and the Xeon chips are cut from the same DIE. There is no quality difference between the two, the Xeons generally lack an iGPU and don't have the high clocks of the i7. There is no data that says the Xeons outlast i7s.

The main difference between the two chips is ECC support on the Xeons. But ECC memory is becoming irrelevant with Operating systems being designed/updated with immunity-aware programming.

Let me know if it ends up working because our whole towing company plays that game when we're not in service. Cheers.
