Hi,
I would like to obtain some information on optimization for CentOS 5.5 64bit. I plan to run cPanel and game servers (we need 500FPS/66TICK on each server). Any guide or other useful information would be appreciated. Trying to make the move from Windows.
This for a GSP company.
Thanks

Either recompile the kernel or download a realtime kernel for CentOS 5.5 64bit and install it on your system, then load it with grub and reboot your system. If you're inexperienced, I would recommend the second option over the first. There's nothing wrong with running CentOS for gameservers.. I'm yet to see a justified reason with proof that Debian is more stable than CentOS and have not experienced any problems myself (in the past 2 years), however if you intend on running cPanel and gameservers on the same box, don't do it. That will be unstable, I promise you.

Why do you need to run cPanel?
Always try to keep web services separate from game services...

I need cPanel to run my website. We don't sell webhosting but I can only afford 1 box. I was thinking about using LAMP w/o a panel.

If you are planing on running multiple vhosts you should look into suexec+fcgid instead of lamp.

cPanel isn't worth it for just one website... Id just get a shared hosting package for hosting your website off your server.

I turned ubuntu my back. I used it for my laptop. But from 9.x to 10.x they removed the hardware support. Since that time no more ubuntu. Updates should increase supported hardware not decrease.
For servers I would always reccomend against ubuntu. With servers you want stability. They release when a date comes and always add newewst versions. Not the best way regarding stability...
