Suggestion for Big Commercial Pit
#61
I say we add one simple rule: 20 constructive posts between entries in the Commercial Pit. Done. I think that is a fair rule to assure people using this free source of advertising to earn it in some way.

That's difficult to monitor though... I don't see the mods actually wanting to find 20 posts for said advertiser.

I agree. People come to this forum for help with their own servers, not to buy servers.

hmm i say keep it becouse it is a forum for help but as in people need help often its a great opertunity for unherd of buisnesses to become known. and also if some is just to frustrated with having to keep a pc on all night or a server then they can buy an affordable server.as tho i see that there is a problem that well for one i suck at spelling at for 2, its possibly a rare ocurance for someone to give up a free server and spend money every month or so for a server that could possibly be down for maintinance from time to time. but like i said GREAT buisness oportunity.

I know that setting more restrictions to the forum will benefit only a handful of members here. I won't say any names, but you know who you are. Lots of names in this thread.

I like startup GSP owners posting information about their services to the forum. Other GSPs obviously don't want competition here.

I agree. And I think GSPs should themself not engage so much in this discussion Toungue

I'm sorry but its Caps Lock time so CSS can understand WHAT IS GOING ON and we are trying to do:

WE ARE NOT RESTRICTING NEW COMPANIES, AND WE ARE NOT RESTRICTING COMPETITION... DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND THIS? WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO DO IS SIMPLY ASK THAT PEOPLE GIVE BACK TO THE FORUMS MORE OFTEN...

I MY SELF AM NOT BENEFITING FROM THIS...
WE ARE TRYING TO GET PEOPLE BACK TO HELP THE COMMUNITY AGAIN!

Let me give you a scenario: (Names depicted are not representations of their owner or their actions.)

Lets say somebody named Derike, from the great state of Oregon decides to join the SRCDS forums to promote her company and help people out. She helps for a little while till she gets roughly 200 posts, meets the minimum requirements, and begins to post in the Pit every week or two to promote her company. Except for the occasional bone toss Derike never assists other members of the forums with their problems and just uses the forums for a source of advertisement.

This is the situation that is at hand with multiple members of the forums... We can always use more help, so why do we let people do this? Make them help again!

ALSO:
Because I run a Company means I'm not subject to express my opinion and feelings about the community?

BACK TO ORIGINAL POST:
Why should we allow illegitimate companies to advertise their name when they haven't even taken the time to notify their local government of their existence?

Precisely. Actually, if you want to get technical, this forum is actually about helping others, trouble shooting and what not, not for advertisement. How are we trying to "restrict competition"? Firstly, I do not even post many advertisements to begin with. Secondly, would you like it if all business's decided to just not help anyone, and just advertise? That would take away from the community big time. If people want to find a good host, GSPReport, GSPTruth, Google, Yahoo, friends, there are TONS of ways to find them. Again, we are not trying to "restrict competition", nor hurt anyone in any way/fashion, we just want to clean up the forums. Here's another scenario about the commercial pit, it is like me going into a restaurant 2-3 times, then after that, I go ahead and use their cork board for my business advertisement's, without ever eating there again. You would not do it, nor would you want anyone to do it, again same thing.

The less there are new GSPs coming to this forum the better it is for those already here. More restrictions to the forum means less GSPs on the forum, which means less competition. Only the current GSPs benefit from not having more GSPs here. Normal users suffer because we see less choices for GSPs.

@ loopyman
You can't be serious that you don't see it beneficial to make it harder for other GPSs to advertise their services.

@ dualcore
Actually, if you want to go technical, this forum does have forum named Commercial Pit. Commercial Pit contains advertisements by definition. Could you tell how you got to the conclusion that this forum is not about GSPs advertising their services?

@css
The forums are about helping people, not posting advertisements...
People have to get 50 posts anyway to post in the Pit, and what is keeping them from just posting spam once they hit 50? Hmm?

Yeah, hitting 50 post's is not hard, takes about 2 days, and basically bumping of old post's. As stated on this thread "the admins are not going to look for all the threads someone posted to be sure it is constructive". Again, I could honestly careless, it does not hurt me in any way, form or fashion. Just trying to clean up the forums from advertisement spam.

Admins prevent GSPs from posting advertisement more than once a week in Commercial Pit. PM me or the admins if you see someone violating the rules. We'll get him banned.

Can you do that for me?

Meanwhile we can continue with the current rules. I'm hoping to see more action in the Pit.

Why do you keep acting like you own the forums?
