Half-Life Deathmatch Source problems
#1
I've been trying to setup a HLDMS dedicated server but I'm having no luck. I've tried the tutorial in the following thread: http://forums.srcds.com/viewtopic/3367

With Valve's Christmas sale, I decided to buy a bunch of my friends the orange box, along with HL1 Source. Well, since I already have a HL2: DM dedicated server, a Team Fortress 2 dedicated server, and a Strider Mod 0.3.5 dedicated server - I have been getting haunted for a good week now to setup a Half Life Source: Deathmatch server and came across the above writeup.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but I can't get SRCDS working correctly to setup a HL1S dedicated server. I've followed the directions exactly, and SRCDS doesn't even open. I've deviated from the directions a bit and moved a few files around and got SRCDS to run, but it said "0/1 players" and it didn't load a map (there are no maps in the deathmatch map folder?). When I finally got it kinda working I could see the server on the network, but when I loaded up HLDMS and tried to connect to it (this time it was actually in the LAN tab) the game showed the server as being a HL2DM server and spit back an error that the version was out of date and to restart my game.

Wondering if there is anyone out there that's running a HLDMS dedicated server that could help me out.

I just did a deep search and there really isn't much documentation on HLDMS. Try removing -autoupdate and -hostport 27017 from you run line.

Do you have any mods installed?
I'm going to keep looking and see what I can find.

I too can't find anything on HLDMS

No mods, no need for them since I can't even get it working.

Removed the autoupdate and hostport. I also had to change the map to devtest to get the server to fire up, otherwise it locks up since it can't find dm_bounce (there aren't any deathmatch maps in the GCF files which is strange). I have HL2DM maps in the folder, and if I try to load one of those instead I don't get any different error, doesn't even say HL2DM, just regular HL2.

In the server menu it says under game type "Half-Life 2" and if I try to connect I get this:
"This version does not match the servers"

Did you extract the files using GCFscape correctly?
