[Resolved] Unable to see/connect to TF2 server via Internet
#1
OS: Windows 7 (x64)
CPU: Intel Quad Core
Router: Actiontec Q1000
Server: Installed dedicated server via the commandline update utility. The dedicated server is standalone, i.e. I am notalso trying to play on it.
Port: I forwarded 27015 UDP (and TCP as well to be sure) on my router to my server machine.

Symptoms: The server starts fine. When I run STATUS from the console, here's the output:
Quote:Connection to Steam servers successful.
VAC secure mode is activated.
] status
hostname: The ChopShop
version : 1.0.7.8/15 4057 secure
udp/ip : 192.168.0.69:27015
map : pl_goldrush at: 0 x, 0 y, 0 z
players : 0 (24 max)
# userid name uniqueid connected ping loss state adr

I can connect successfully to the server from my client machine if I connect via the local IP. I can check my various loadouts and see that I have my unlocks as I should, so I believe the server is communicating with Steam?

The problem I have is that I'm unable to either see the server on the Master server list, nor am I able to connect to it directly by going to the external IP. I've run portforward.com's Port Forward Test utility on the server and it now confirms 27015 is open on UPD/TCP once I set up the forwarding rules on my router.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what the problem might be? I'm at my wits end here... Smile

You yourself cannot connect to your external IP. Have a friend connect to it. And for the master server list, sometimes it doesn't like to list servers that are behind a NAT translation.

If it's on the LAN, you can only see it on LAN. With port forwarding, others will be able to see and join it.

Please do not PM me for server related help

....

So... what you're saying is that I stayed up until 3:30am, on a work night no less, trying to fix a problem which didn't actually exist? Big Grin Aiiiieeeee.

Thank you very much guys, what a great site and great community. I appreciate the help!

(And yes, just had a friend try now that it's not 3:30 in the morning and sane people are awake, and sure enough he got in!)

Is there any workaround for this, or am I just kinda hosed with my setup?

Eh, I have never tried to host any production servers behind NAT, so I wouldn't know. :/

I suppose if you were to forward all and any srcds.exe related ports then you should be good.

Beaver says they are: 27000 to 27040 and 1200 but I have found just the port of the game server works just fine Toungue ( But I don't have any servers that go through NAT )

I've run a server from behind NAT and it works fine.

It could always just be me, but it happens once in a while and generally with folks that go through NAT.

It won't come up on the Internet tab if it appears on the LAN tab. Rule of thumb, don't check your servers external connectivity locally.
