Fps booster cpu using problem.
#1
Hi,

We are using windows server 2008 x64 standard edition, if we dont use fps booster a our tickrate in/out value cannot increase 60.

When we start fpsbooster as, (fps_max "600") the usage of cpu increase too much and reach to % 90,98 and sometimes even % 100

HPET is enabled.

What is your advice if we want to make ticketrate value stable as 100 and prevent to usage of CPU too much.

Regards.

this info may or may not be accurate, but when you use a high precision timer, cpu usage tracking is more accurate.

so when your using a normal timer, srcds is using 80% of a core, even though it registers as < 20%.

in other words, hardware is the main limiter of server performance, not fps.

then again, i could be completely wrong.

i think this causes a lot of hosts to overload their servers with the illusion that the server can handle it as the usage never goes above 60% even though it's needing 140% of the processing power.

Hey billythekid,

The tickrate is directly related to the FPS as you've noticed, so the solution would be to limit the FPS to something like 200, also use the booster. The higher the FPS is the more CPU power it will consume. Running an FPS of 200 should be more then enough for a 100tickrate server and it keeps the strain off quite a bit too in relation to a 512FPS 100tick server.

when i use fps_max 100 (~90) or fps_max 0 (512), there doesn't seem to be any noticeable change with the processor load. =\

Keep in mind that a 100 tickrate uses about 2x as much CPU as a 66 tickrate slot. If you were comparing it to the load with the 60 FPS=60tick, it's very logic that it uses more CPU.
Not sure how excessive the usage is but..

What is the processor you are using ?
