sv_maxupdaterate 101
sv_minupdaterate 50
sv_maxcmdrate 101

for 40 players, maybe tickrate 66 is best. tickrate 100 will not be of much use, many clients won't get over ~60 fps in any case during battle (remember, cmdrate is limited by client fps, and a tickrate higher than the "usual" cmdrate on the server doesn't make sense).
so, third option:

Tickrate: 66
sv_maxupdaterate 67
sv_minupdaterate 33
sv_maxcmdrate 67
sv_mincmdrate 33
sv_minrate 8000
sv_maxrate 30000

(and btw: minrate shouldn't be too high unless you want to exclude players with bad connections)

Unless you have a Q8xxx or above, don't use higher tickrate than 33, it won't make it Smile

don't think that's true... I didn't run servers with so many slots yet, but a full 24 slot server with tick100 runs smoothly on a Q6600 together with other server, so...

just try it out, if it lags, you might want to reduce the tickrate :-)

edit: ok this might depend on the OS. I was speaking of linux based servers....

It will run smoothly, but the tickrate will drop to around 30-40 anyway, so it's better to have it stable at 33 than having it unstable between 30-100 depending on the amount of players still playing the round.

Tickrate 66 is your best bet...
Tickrate 33 will just be weird, and your guns wont shoot normal.
