There is definitely something bad with my L4D Servers
#1
Hello!

well, i have 3 l4d Servers hosted in a VPS.

The VPS config is:
Core 2 Quad @ 2.26ghz
2gb ram
5 MB upload speed (i taked it from speedtest.net test)

I have 1 server Versus 16 player, one Coop 12 player and 1 Versus 8 players, and i have a HUUGE LAG, i (and all my players on servers) have some high ping in some moments, AND, high choke!:

and here you have my VPS remote desktop:

I have the Rates at DEFAULT, i havent changed anything. The ticrate is at default too.

I have read that disabling multicore with (mat_queue_mode 0) could help, but as far as i know, that command only works in the L4D Client.

What the hell is going on here? because up to yesterday i had this servers in the same machine but with an old version of VMware that only allowed to use 2 cores, and today the installed the new version and added the extra 2 cores and it is working far worse than with 2 cores..........
There is something really strange here!

i suppose that this should be something relationed with RATES.

Please, HELP ME!!!

It doesn't have enough power.

VPS may work for 1 server, but their ultimately not what you want to use to host game servers on. I would recommend either renting the server's outright from a GSP or looking into a basic dedicated server.

Yea, the processors are being shared, so don't think you're going to get full power of those processors.

Like the others said, you don't have enough VPU power to run the servers.
VPS' are not good for running dedicated servers!

But how do you explain that with VMware 6.5 and only 2 cores avtivated for my VPS it was working just fine with rates at Default, and now, with 2 more cores, same OS, same Servers, Same host PC, its working FAR worse... ?

Because they are shared and maybe they have more customers now stacked on the same box?

A VPS with Windows Vista? I don't understand. That's definitely not good.

If you need information about rates and how they work, I learned from this website: link .. Though your issue may not be Rate related, this will answer any questions regarding rates (tickrate/maxrate/conversions/etc..), since you did not seem to clear on those. This also covers choke and fixes for it. I hope this helps you.

P.S. it has been said that L4D runs best on its default rate settings (hence the "it may not be Rate related" comment), but still, the link contains useful knowledge for any gaming-server administrator.
