I am guessing the OP is referring to Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2).
http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/ I have never used it personally but it sounds like a VPS host to me. I have heard that amazon uses XenServer for there servers so I would guess this would be based off the same software. If it is then it will be terrible performance for hosting game servers. As in you'd be lucky to get 200FPS server side. However I could be totally wrong, I would love to hear if someone knows more about it and if anyone was tried it.

SRCDS does NOT work well when virtualized. Therefore, running on "the cloud" is a BAD idea.

Please do not PM me for server related help fqdn Wrote:if you've seen the any of the matrix movies, a game server is not all that different. it runs a version of the game that handles the entire world for each client connected. that's the 2 sentence explanation.

I've successfully run a server at 1000FPS under a Xen DomU after recompiling the DomU kernel timed at 1000Hz. The trouble with shared systems is the i/o wait, it only takes someone else to hammer their VPS, and your srcds may as well be running from a 486.

Hi, All that you posted is good, as I am searching for an appropriate alternative which I got through this. Thanks!!

running srcds in a xen DomU without other DomUs on the same hardware is pretty pointless ;-)
