#1
Hey, i'm here just to ask a little question. I installed the srcds from hldsupdatetool, and my question is, what tickrate? how many slots? what cfg?

Ok, my System specs are:

Intel Pentium 4 3.06GHz
Nvidia GeForce 7300LE 256MB
1GB RAM
250GB hard drive.

Depending on what game you want? But to start of which: That upload ain't going to hold more than 5slots!

The game is Counter Strike: Source. Oh and i saw here: http://planethalflife.gamespy.com/View.php?view=HL2Guides.Detail&id=4&game=3 that 480 kbps upload can handle 12 slots... (sorry if advertising it's against the rules)

Oh, and i'm running Windows XP Service Pack 3

That's not true. If it were I should were enable to hold 48players at 100tick with a 2mbit upload. But I can barely hold 12?. And if it is for 33tick, that's untrue too.

100tick = 5players, if you're lucky.
66tick = 8 - 10.
33tick = probably 14.

Thank you. Well i'm thinking about running it with ES, mani, with noblock radio etc.

It's more like a fun server. That i will be using all kind of maps. bhop_, deathrun_, aim_, de_, mg_, surf_...

What tickrate should i use? and in your opinion, what rates should i use? (sv_maxrate, minrate, updaterate...)

Thank you very much and sorry for this many questions.

Oh, and sometimes when i'm running the server, it happens that some players "break", this is, they are walking somewhere, and sometimes they stop, and appear on another side of the map (teleport), but when they break, i can still kill them, but it's very annoying for them. I heard there is no solution for this. Is that true?

I'd recommend 33tick with that upload speed.
Rates:
Code:
sv_maxcmdrate 33
sv_mincmdrate 15
sv_maxupdaterate 33
sv_minupdaterate 15
sv_maxrate 10000
sv_minrate 5000

That could be a problem with your internet connection, if the client has to many lost packets, something like that would eventually happen.

No problem, that article is actually written by myself and is advertised on these forums quite a lot Wink

As for the bandwidth directions in that article, it's been written ~february 2007, a lot has changed with bandwidth usage and CPU usage so the values are quite deprecated (I have no way to update it on that site since it's external)

A 10slot server with 100tick eats 2,0mbit.

Not true, I can host to about 24 people on 2mb/s and 100tick.

That's hard to believe as a 24 slot 100tickrate server (full) uses an AVERAGE of 3.8Mbits/s, with a peak about 5.7Mbits/s and a minimum of around 2.3Mbits/s

with a 2mbit connection the average ping of all players will be around eight to nine-hundreds.
