100 tick good enough for 20 clients?

my server always runs at like 400 fps at 100 tickrate with 20 client slots my computer specs are

Processor: AMD turion™ x2 dual-core mobile RM-74 2.20 Ghz
RAM: 4.00 gb
OS: 64 bit windows vista home premium
Graphics: ATI radeon graphics card

my upload speed is 1.8 Mbit

will my server run optimally with this specs?

No, your upload speed and processor speed wont be able to handle it, maybe 66tick yes.

It wont be a problem with the tick the problem will be your upload speed i got 2 100 tick 32 slots servers on my computer in sweden its running
Os : Windows XP
Ram: 1gb
Processor: Amd athlon XP 2500+
Connection 100/100 mb Fiberoptic
Tickrate 100 cpu load around 50-70% all the time.
Ram usage around 600-800 mb

Yeah, your internet speed is the only issue there. Try to upgrade it, or downsize the servers.

Your upload *should* handle just 16 clients at 100tick (average 14kbps upload per 100tick client), but I would doubt you would get 16 on, I would recommend dropping the tick to 66 if you want 20 slots. Your CPU isn't brilliant either, but it should handle it ok Smile

Too bad a 100Tick server uses 15-25 KBYTE/s (not bits!!!) on average, it doesn't drop below 15 much at all, as well as going above 25 is VERY rare.

So a 16 slot 100tick will use around 2.5Mbit when full

Hmmm yes, but i ran a small little CSS minigame server 26 slot - 100 Tick (Clocking on the CPU) but sv_minrate 1000, sv_maxrate 4000 (sv_minupaterate 10 and sv_maxupdaterate 100) on a AMD Athlon 64 X2 3600+ and it ran fine all peoples pings were under 80-90ms and my upload is only 1020kbps Wink

In that post you say 14kbit per second per player, while it is 144kbit (18kByte) average.

144kbit (18kByte) * 16 players = 2.3mbit (288kByte)
Add a bit for spikes/full server you'll need at least 2.3mbit upload.

Also:
((1.8 * 1000)/8 )/14 = 16.07

1.8 mbit * 1000 = 1800 kbit
1800kbit /8bits = 225kByte
225kByte / ?14kbit? = somewthing weird cause it's not correct
225kByte / 14kByte = 16.07 slots

I think you made a typo in your first post about the 14kbit being kByte instead, cause you treated it that way in your formula. I understand how you came to the 16 players.
However, the 14kByte per slot is a bit on the low end , for a 66tick it MIGHT just work, for 100 it's not enough.

1.8mbit upload can't hold 66tick 20slots.
