Troubles with many > 20 players on 1000fps server
#1
Server OS: CentOS 5.3 x86_64
Processor: Dual Intel Xeon 5520 (quad core, hyperthreaded, 2.26GHz)
RAM: 16GB
Game: Counter-Strike: Source
Start up command: "taskset -c 11 ./srcds_run -game cstrike -ip 204.15.228.120 -port 27027 -maxplayers 32 -tickrate 100 +fps_max 1000 +map de_dust2 +servercfgfile server.cfg -autoupdate -nohltv -nobots"
Admin Mods: SM Mod, metamod, zblock

So here is the problem, this server seems to be pretty stable (fps wise) to start, but it seems that if you hit over 20 people it starts going nuts.

I'm not sure where to go from here. I am using Linux 2.26.29.6 with rt patch. I cleaned up the kernel pretty well, removing useless items. Additionally I am using the SuperMicro X8FTT-F motherboard (http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/QPI/5500/X8DTT-F.cfm) which uses the Intel 5500 chipset.

I use the idler, and used fragaholics.de examples as a base but things still aren't working just right as you can see.

Any tips or pointers would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Try lowering the FPS for a test, to like 500FPS. Should make a difference.

Roger, I will see what it does as soon as I can and I will report back.

Had a hard time getting > 20 people in the server but still showed signs of unusual fps drops.

Did you CHRT the server process?

Its pretty simple, you can't run 20+ slots at 100 tick and 1000 FPS without drop on 2.26 GHz.

Do you want to back that up with some facts?

Well, its not recommended to run a 100 tick server over 18 slots or something like that. Did you try other kernels?

It still seems unstable to me even under 20 as noted in my last fps meter posts. I have no problem keeping it under but I would still like it to be more stable in general. Any tips or suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have tried a couple 2.6.* kernels, and just the 2.6.29.6 with the rt patch.

Any suggestions for patches or kernels?
