Overclock?

How can I overclock my CPU?

I have an AMD Dual Core 2,2GHz.

Don't know.

Windows XP Professional 32BIT.
Windows Vista: Home Premium 32BIT.

Alright, the only way you can overclock OEM (hp, compaq, dell etc...) is by editing the FSB speed, you can do that with a couple tools.

The only problem with overclocking this way, is that it automatically overclocks your ram, so you may need to adjust your ram timings if it keeps crashing.

Wouldn't it be better to test it on a pc with an insurance? Since my currently PC's insurance ran out few days ago. I will try on my laptop.

DONT OVERCLOCK A LAPTOP
it produces enough heat already, and the fans are small

The warranty is void once you over clock it. They have small chips in them that record clock speeds, so its better to do it on the one without a warranty

Well first of all, if you are new to overclocking, I would not recommend doing it. If you want to practice on an old computer you can, but the overclocking programs will probably not have the drivers for your mobo

I wouldn't overclock. I don't think the performance increase is worth it. Plus you have a greater chance of the CPU failing. Overclocking can also void some warranties.

if its and older comp. ull notice the benefots more. i OCed a celeron 2.0 to 2.6 really noticed the speed boost. but i dont know how much u can really notice on high end cpus.. since they are pretty much fast already.

I would say it does improve performance a bit. All depends on your achieved clocks though. I have my i7 running at a beefy 3.8ghz, and it does provide performance benefits. stock clocks were at 2.66 if I'm not mistaken. Another CPU I have overclocked is the famous Q6600 G0 SLACR, from 2.4 to 3.0, it boots VISTA twice as fast. The welcome screen just pops and boom into windows, as before takes couple seconds to load.
