What do you think of these boxes?
CPU: Dual intel E5520 @ 2.33Ghz
Ram: 6 Gbs per proccesor, = 12gbs ecc
Hardrive: Dual 150GB 10krpms raptors.
network: 2tb-10tb with 1gbe ports
OS: windows server 2008 std x64

i would suspect the network the first one is running on is complete crap at that price. oversold is probably an understatement. selling bandwidth on a per-gb consumption basis is a good cop out for providers as in that scheme, there is usually a very-low, or non-existent guarunteed amount of bandwidth 'sla'. make sure the provider can offer a minimum acceptable amount of bandwidth at any point in time. its always good to check connectivy with their as if they are willing/able to provide it.

the question is what's the balance and do they use a fcp to route all the carriers or are they just talking about the internap bandwidth? if they aren't using a fcp for all of them, the internap link itself is certainly nice, but not going to do you as much good as you might think. bgp routes purely on hops and internap may have more hops even though its the better route.
looks like few good upstreams though. the real question is do they guaruntee the minimum throughput rate you'll need 24x7? if its not dedicated you'll put yourself at the mercy of everyone else on their network if they can't guaruntee that. i can't speak for this mystery provider obviously, but you usually find you get what you pay for in the colo business.

Wait,
if your getting that from softlayer you must be beating them with a stick. They would never give something of that type away for that much. NEVER! I wouldn't even budge for that price on such an amount of resources.

Also, just because it's softlayer dosent make it good, I had a server with them once, nothing to complain about but the pricing. I found just as good quality, if not better for way cheaper. And I doubt you got those boxes for those prices, they are hella cheap for the specs, either that or softlayer is DYING for clients in this economy.

Sorry to bash in the forums, but no one in their right mind would give something out for that much with those specs. it costs close to a grand to just make one of those.
Anyway, at least I would never go that cheap, unless you paid us for 1 year upfront, :-). Then it would only be considered.

I don't see how he is bsing as our prices are lower then what cookie is saying. If you have a large amount of boxes with SoftLayer they will go out of there way to make you happy.
