Hey,

Is there some sort of mailing list that I can subscribe to that instantly notifies me when an update has been released for TF2?

I'd like to keep my servers up to date, and it only takes me a second to update them, but sometimes I don't find out for a couple of hours to a day later that an update has been released.

There is an RSS feed on TF2's website, and that is probably your best bet Smile
If you are planning on running a server on the computer you play on...
